Team members, Zetao Xu, Chenghao Hu, Xiangyu Li, Zhongyang Yu presented their latest research works in a mini-workshop with Professor Shigeru Miyagawa.

Professor Shigeru Miyagawa (MIT) gives three lectures at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, under the Wilson T. S. Wang-New Method College Visiting Professorship in Language Education. 1. May 20: What is Human Language Designed for? 2. May 21: Baby Sounds, Boléro, and Other Gifts of Evolution. 3. May 26: Pro-drop, E-type Pronouns, and Agreement With Reference to the Null Subject in Chinese and Japanese

Chenghao Hu presented the paper “Chinese Nominal Structure: on Plural Marker and Pronouns” at The 34th Colloquium on Generative Grammar (CGG34) held at the National University of Distance Education (UNED) in Madrid, Spain, from May 7 to 9, 2025.

On April 8, 2025, Professor Klaus Abels (University College London) gave a talk titled “Scope, Quantifier Raising, and the Typology of Ditransitive VPs” for the research seminar at the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Xiangyu Li presented his poster “Revisit and derive Verb-Copying Constructions in Chinese uniformly by Form-Copy” at The Workshop on Theoretical East Asian Linguistics 14 (TEAL-14) held at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, from 2025 March 19 to 21.

Three team members successfully passed their PhD Topic Proposals! Chenghao Hu, Nominal Licensing and Its Mechanisms in Mandarin Chinese and Beyond; Xiangyu Li Copy Identification Mechanism at Narrow Syntax: from Strong Minimalist Thesis to Form-Copy; Zhongyang Yu, Head Movement and Cliticization: A Syntactic Approach.

Zhongyang Yu presented the poster “Deriving Sogdian pronominal cliticization” at The 50th Incontro di Grammatica Generativa held at University of Padova in Italy from 2025 February 20 to 21.
